New Year's Eve 2026 in Bengaluru: Parties, MG Road Rules and Metro
Updated 2026-10-12 ยท 6 min read ยท by the bengaluru2go team
New Year’s Eve 2026 is on a Thursday, and Bengaluru (Bangalore) will see it in the way it always does: a huge street crowd on MG Road and Brigade Road, ticketed parties in every pub district, and a police plan that reshapes the centre of the city for one night. Party line-ups for this year are announced from late November. The logistics are more predictable, so this guide sets out how the night worked on 31 December 2025, which is the best guide to what to expect. We’ll list confirmed events on our New Year’s Eve parties page as they go on sale.
The night at a glance (based on 31 December 2025)
| What | Rule in 2025 |
|---|---|
| Roads closed to vehicles | MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, Museum Road, Rest House Road: 8 pm to 2 am |
| Parking ban | On those roads and nearby streets from 4 pm on 31 December to 3 am |
| Brigade Road | Pedestrians one-way only, from the MG Road junction towards Opera House junction |
| Flyovers | All closed from 11 pm to 6 am except the airport flyover; no two-wheelers on that one from 10 pm |
| MG Road metro station | Closed for entry and exit from 10 pm; use Trinity or Cubbon Park |
| Last metro | About 2 am from the Purple and Green Line terminals; 2:45 am from Majestic |
| Drink-driving checks | 166 checkpoints across the city |
Police said they expected more than 10 lakh people on the streets in 2025 and deployed about 20,000 personnel, with drones and a heat-map system to watch crowd density. Treat every number above as last year’s; the 2026 advisory will come from Bengaluru City Police and BMRCL in the final days of December.
Where to celebrate
MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street
This is the free, public celebration. From about 8 pm the roads belong to pedestrians, the crowd builds until the countdown, and the bars and restaurants along MG Road and Church Street run their own ticketed parties inside. It is loud and packed, and police manage it tightly: Brigade Road is one-way on foot, and barricades channel people in and out. Go if you want to be in the middle of it; skip it if you’re with small children or dislike crowds.
Indiranagar
100 Feet Road and 12th Main are the city’s densest strip of pubs and restaurants, and most sell New Year’s Eve packages. In 2025 parking was banned on both sides of both roads, with spaces offered on 17th Main and near BM Shree Junction. The Purple Line’s Indiranagar station is a short walk from the top of 100 Feet Road. See what’s on in Indiranagar.
Koramangala
5th Block and 80 Feet Road have the pubs, clubs and comedy rooms. There’s no metro here, so everyone arrives by cab; in 2025 police marked pick-up and drop points at the UCO Bank service road and Sukhasagar Junction and banned parking on 80 Feet Road.
Whitefield and the tech corridors
Large brewpubs and the open-air courtyard at Phoenix Marketcity take the eastern suburbs’ crowd, which saves a long trip into town. The Purple Line ran until about 2 am last year, with the last train from Whitefield at 1:45 am.
Malls, hotels and resorts
Phoenix Mall of Asia on Ballari Road and Orion Mall in Rajajinagar both stage open-air events, and police banned parking on the service roads around them in 2025 and set up marked cab stands. Hotels run gala dinners with live bands, and resorts on the city’s edges sell overnight packages, which solve the problem of getting home.
Something quieter
Not everyone wants a dance floor. Many restaurants run set-menu dinners, often with an early seating that finishes before the roads close. Between Christmas and New Year, look at our Christmas events page for carol evenings and markets, and check our concerts page for gigs in the last week of December.
How to choose a party
Listings start appearing in late November, and prices rise through December. Before paying, check five things.
- What the ticket includes. Entry only, a cover charge redeemable at the bar, or unlimited food and drinks for a fixed window are very different deals.
- Entry rules. Many venues admit only couples or groups with a set ratio, and most set a 21+ age limit with photo ID.
- The timing. Check when service ends. Police have asked venues to wind up by 1 am in past years.
- Where it is. A party near a metro station is worth more than a cheaper one that needs a cab at 1 am.
- The refund policy. Most New Year’s Eve tickets are non-refundable.
Namma Metro on New Year’s Eve
The metro is the best way to and from the centre. Here is what BMRCL ran on 31 December 2025.
| Line | Last train (early 1 January 2026) |
|---|---|
| Purple: Whitefield to Challaghatta | 1:45 am |
| Purple: Challaghatta to Whitefield | 2:00 am |
| Green: Madavara to Silk Institute | 2:00 am |
| Green: Silk Institute to Madavara | 2:00 am |
| Yellow: RV Road to Bommasandra | 3:10 am |
| Yellow: Bommasandra to RV Road | 1:30 am |
| From Majestic, all four directions | 2:45 am |
Trains ran every eight minutes on the Purple and Green lines from 11:30 pm, and every 15 minutes on the Yellow Line. Three practical points from last year:
- MG Road station was shut from 10 pm. You couldn’t enter or leave there. Walk to Trinity or Cubbon Park instead.
- Token sales at Trinity and Cubbon Park stopped at 11 pm. Buy a return QR ticket in advance, or carry a smart card with enough balance.
- Majestic is the fallback. If you miss the last train from your station, the interchange had departures until 2:45 am.
Getting home
- Don’t drive. Flyovers were closed overnight, 166 checkpoints tested drivers, and police watched 92 spots for stunt riding. If your group is drinking, police advise having one person who isn’t.
- Use the designated cab points. In the centre last year these were at BRV Junction, CTO Junction, Cubbon Road, Cubbon Park metro station and Trinity Circle. In Indiranagar they were at Lowry Junction and BM Shree Junction.
- Expect surge pricing and long waits for cabs after midnight. Walking to the metro is usually faster.
- If you must park, the 2025 advisory pointed to the Shivajinagar BMTC complex, UB City and Garuda Mall for the MG Road area. Anything left on the closed roads after 4 pm risked being towed.
- Report trouble on 112, the emergency number.
New Year’s Day
Friday 1 January is a slow morning in most of the city. Lalbagh and Cubbon Park are good for a walk, and temples are crowded on New Year’s Day, so expect queues at popular ones such as the ISKCON temple in Rajajinagar. Science Gallery Bengaluru is closed on 1 January. If you were thinking of sunrise at Nandi Hills, check the district administration’s notice first: the hill has been closed to visitors on New Year’s Eve night in past years.
What we don’t know yet for 2026
- This year’s police advisory. Road closures, parking bans and pedestrian routes are announced in the last days of December and can change from year to year.
- Metro timings. BMRCL publishes its extended hours a day or two before. The Pink Line’s first stretch, along Bannerghatta Road, was awaiting an opening date in mid-October 2026; if it is running by then, expect it in the plan.
- Party line-ups and prices. Most venues had not listed their events when this guide was written.
We’ll update this page as each is confirmed.
A simple plan
- Late November: shortlist parties as listings open on our nightlife page.
- By 20 December: book, and note the entry cut-off time on the ticket.
- 28โ30 December: read the police traffic advisory and BMRCL’s timings.
- 31 December: leave before 8 pm, buy your return metro ticket on the way in, and agree a meeting point in case phones fail in the crowd.
