About Cubbon Park
Cubbon Park, officially Sri Chamarajendra Park, is the green heart of central Bengaluru, established in 1870 and named after Sir Mark Cubbon. It is free to enter. Inside are the State Central Library in the red Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall, the children's complex Bal Bhavan, and an octagonal cast-iron bandstand from the early 1900s that is used for occasional Sunday concerts. The park is the city's favourite venue for informal events: run clubs, yoga sessions, silent reading groups, sketching meet-ups, dog walks and heritage walks gather here at weekends. Several internal roads are closed to vehicles on Sundays and public holidays. The Vidhana Soudha, the High Court, Venkatappa Art Gallery and the Visvesvaraya museum are all on its edges.
