About Sree Kanteerava Stadium
Sree Kanteerava Stadium is Bengaluru's main football and athletics venue, at the southern edge of Cubbon Park. The original stadium was built in 1946 on the bed of Sampangi Lake; the present 25,810-seat bowl, with an eight-lane synthetic track, opened on 31 May 1997 for the National Games. It is owned and run by Karnataka's Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports. Bengaluru FC has played its home matches here since 2014, and the India men's football team has used it regularly. The same complex includes the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, an arena of about 4,000 seats that has been the home court of the Bengaluru Bulls kabaddi team and hosted the SABA basketball championships in 2015 and 2016.
