About Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Lalbagh is Bengaluru's 240-acre botanical garden, commissioned by Hyder Ali in 1760 and completed by Tipu Sultan. Its Glass House, modelled on London's Crystal Palace, had its foundation stone laid in 1889 and is the centrepiece of two flower shows a year, in the fortnights before Republic Day and Independence Day. The 220th show ran from 6 to 17 August 2026; the January 2026 show ran from 14 to 26 January. Flower-show tickets in 2026 were ₹80 for adults on weekdays and ₹100 on weekends and holidays, and ₹30 for children. The garden also has a Kempegowda watchtower on a rock of 3,000-million-year-old gneiss, a lake and, in summer, a mango fair. Dates for the January 2027 show had not been announced at the time of writing.
