About Freedom Park

Freedom Park is a public park built on the grounds of Bengaluru's former Central Jail on Seshadri Road, opened in November 2008. Parts of the old prison, including watchtowers and barracks, were kept as exhibits; Emergency-era detainees held here included Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani. One section is set aside as the city's designated space for protests, and it was the Bengaluru rallying point for the 2011 anti-corruption protests. The rest of the 20-acre site has become a festival ground: the Bangalore Literature Festival moved here on 6 and 7 December 2025, with four programme venues and three children's stages, and BLR Hubba has used it as a venue. It is within reach of both Majestic and Central College metro stations.
