About Bangalore Gayana Samaja
The Bangalore Gayana Samaja, founded in 1905, is described as India's oldest functioning music sabha and is the centre of Carnatic music in south Bengaluru. It has been on K.R. Road in Basavanagudi since 1962, in an auditorium partly funded by benefit concerts given by M.S. Subbulakshmi. The hall was renovated at a cost of about โน1.5 crore and reopened on 15 January 2017. The Samaja's calendar is built around vocal and instrumental concerts, dance recitals and lecture-demonstrations, and its annual music conference confers the title Sangeetha Kalarathna on a senior musician. Other sabhas and cultural organisations also hire the hall for their own concerts and festivals.
