Things to do in Shivajinagar & Commercial Street

Shivajinagar is the commercial core of the old Cantonment: Commercial Street's clothing and jewellery shops, Russell Market, built in 1927, and lanes of kebab and biryani stalls that stay busy late into the evening, especially during Ramzan. St Mary's Basilica draws huge crowds for its feast on 8 September. On Kamaraj Road, Sabha, a restored 160-year-old school building, hosts concerts, poetry, theatre, exhibitions and workshops in its courtyards. The area is crowded and Sabha has no parking, so walk in from MG Road station on the Purple Line, a little over a kilometre away, or use the Shivajinagar bus station.
