The Pete is the original Bengaluru, the market town Kempegowda founded in 1537, and its lanes are still divided by trade: silk and saris in Chickpet, books and stationery on Avenue Road, flowers at KR Market before dawn. Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace and the remains of Bangalore Fort stand at its southern end. On JC Road, the Town Hall and Ravindra Kalakshetra host Kannada theatre, state functions and music, and each spring the Karaga procession leaves the Dharmaraya Swamy Temple in Thigalarpet. Go on foot, ideally with a heritage walk. Chickpete and Krishna Rajendra Market stations on the Green Line are inside the area.
