About Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, founded in 1960, is the state's best-known visual-arts institution, a campus on Kumara Krupa Road with 18 galleries and a College of Fine Arts. Thirteen galleries hold the permanent collection, which includes Mysore paintings, leather puppets and folk art, a large group of Himalayan paintings by Nicholas Roerich donated by his son Svetoslav, and works by Amrita Sher-Gil, Jamini Roy and Rabindranath Tagore; the others are rented out for temporary exhibitions. Since 2004 it has organised Chitra Santhe, the one-day art fair that turns the road outside into an open-air gallery. The 23rd edition, on Sunday 4 January 2026, ran from 8 am to 8 pm with more than 1,500 stalls.
