About Palace Grounds
Palace Grounds is the open estate surrounding Bangalore Palace, north of the city centre, and has long been the default site for Bengaluru's largest exhibitions, weddings and fairs. It is not one venue but a set of named plots, each with its own numbered gate: the annual cake show ran at Tripuravasini, Gate 2 on Ballari Road, from December 2025 to January 2026, and dandiya nights in October 2026 were listed at Shringar Palace Garden, Gate 8. The grounds staged the city's landmark rock concerts, including Iron Maiden in 2007 and Metallica in 2011, before the state restricted commercial events there in 2012 and big shows moved to the outskirts. Ownership of the estate remains in dispute between the state and the Mysuru royal family.
Frequently asked questions
Which gate should I use for Palace Grounds?
It depends on the event. Each named plot, such as Tripuravasini or Shringar Palace Garden, has its own gate number on Ballari Road or Jayamahal Road, and the ticket or listing will state it.
Is there a metro station near Palace Grounds?
No. The nearest Purple Line station, Vidhana Soudha, is over two kilometres away, so most visitors take a cab, auto or bus.
Is Palace Grounds the same as Bangalore Palace?
Palace Grounds is the estate around the palace. The palace building itself is a separate ticketed visitor attraction.
Are big concerts still held at Palace Grounds?
Rarely. Since the state restricted commercial events in 2012, the grounds have mainly hosted weddings, exhibitions, fairs and festive events, and most large concerts use grounds on the city's outskirts.
