Kadalekai Parishe 2026: Basavanagudi's Groundnut Fair

Kadalekai Parishe, Bengaluru's centuries-old groundnut fair, is held on the last Monday of the Hindu month of Karthika, which in 2026 falls on Monday 7 December. The official programme is announced in November by the state's Muzrai (temple endowments) department and the city corporation, so treat the date as the traditional one until then; stalls usually appear on the weekend before, and in 2025 the fair was extended to five days, from 17 to 21 November. It takes place around the Bull Temple in Basavanagudi, where Bull Temple Road is closed to traffic and the stretch from Ramakrishna Ashram Circle to Bugle Rock and Gandhi Bazaar fills with farmers selling freshly harvested groundnuts, raw, boiled and roasted, alongside toys, bangles, clay dolls and fairground food. Legend says a bull that raided the area's groundnut fields was pacified when farmers pledged their first harvest to Basava, the Nandi enshrined in the temple Kempegowda built in 1537. Farmers still come from Magadi, Tumakuru, Ramanagara and Chikkaballapur, and from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. A smaller fair is held around the Kadu Malleshwara temple in Malleshwaram; in 2025 it came a week earlier. This page lists the fair and related events in Bengaluru (Bangalore).

Good to know

  • Take the Green Line to National College and walk or take an auto to Bull Temple Road; the road itself is closed to vehicles during the fair.
  • Go on a weekday morning for the easiest walk, or after dark for the lights and the biggest crowds.
  • Carry a cloth bag and small change. Many farmers now accept UPI, but cash is quicker at the smaller stalls.
  • Groundnuts are sold by the measure rather than by weight, so ask the price per measure before the vendor fills your bag.
  • Combine the fair with the Bull Temple, the Dodda Ganesha temple and Bugle Rock park, which are all on the same stretch.
  • Keep children close and wear closed shoes; by evening the road is shoulder to shoulder.
